Entered the DSM-IV in 1994

One of many sets of diagnostic criteria:
- Impairment in social interaction
- Restricted repetitive and stereotyped patterns of behavior, interests and activities
- Clinically significant impairment in social, occupational, or other areas of function
- No clinically significant language delay
- No clinically significant cognitive delay

ICD-10 (World Health Organization, 1993)

It is interesting to note that these criteria are all slightly different, with some more inclusive of individuals on the spectrum and some more exclusive (strict). The criteria are listed in appendices in Tony Attwood, Asperger’s Syndrome, A Guide for Parents and Professionals, Jessica Kingsley Publishers, 1998.
